Spent the night at City Hall because my car got stuck in the snow. Made it from the Village to downtown OKC, but couldn't get 100 yards down 4th St. Luckily an Oklahoma City firefighter was helping another motorist and after pulling me out, offered to give me a ride to my office. But after we got there and he drove away I realized I left my keys in his truck. So luckily (again), he was nice enough to drive back and give me my keys to my office.
That isn't the end of the day. When I got inside I started taking phone calls and left my coat, lunch and iPad in the lobby. After hanging up, I stepped out to get what I left, but I turned around when the door shut. The realization hit me between the eyes I forgot to flip the latch so it wouldn't lock. I was locked out and out of luck again. After trying to get in with an old gift card I had in my wallet, I went upstairs to find an open computer and waited. Luckily (third time) Jim Couch, Oklahoma City's city manager, arrived at work and with a master key. As he walked down with me I realized I left the gift card stuck in the door. Did I mention he is my boss's boss. Hope he doesn't think he hired a small time criminal. Obviously I wasn't successful so let me restate that, "I hope he doesn't think he hired a small time failed criminal."
No more "luckilies" after that. Everyone left and I was stuck at City Hall alone. So after things calmed down, I started taking pictures and posting them online. I was hoping I would end up on the set of the municipal version of Night at the Museum, but no such luck. If last night was a movie, it would have been pretty boring. However if you were watching the adaptation of the evening, you probably would have at least smiled at the number of times I checked to make sure I had my keys each time I walked out the door. It was compulsive.
I made it home this morning about 9 a.m. A friend (thanks Clint) in his four wheel drive truck picked me up with enough supplies to dig my car out from the side of Everest. But, oddly enough, when we got to it there wasn't a bit of snow on or around my car. It was weird.
Here is the link to my "Stuck in City Hall" Flickr set. Stay warm and hope you have a few luckilies over the next few days.
Marina:
I'm so glad you made it home safely! I was thinking about getting worried but decided to take a nap instead. (j/k glad I checked your blog before I overreacted)
