welcome.jpg

Hello. Welcome to my new creative outlet for photography and writing. I'm still working on getting things in order, but keep checking back for progress updates and to find out what's happening on my block.  For new visitors, I'm Zach, a photographer and designer living in Oklahoma City. I'm a former print journalist who made the move to public relations a few years back. My favorite food is raw fish (a close tie with pho), my color palette for clothes tends to be brown and blue, I often wear Birkenstocks with dress pants; the only station I have programmed on my car radio is NPR and, thanks to my parents, my initials spell zen.

Kathy and I used this photo of Chesapeake Energy's light display on Western Avenue for our 09 Christmas card. Merry Christmas from the Nashes.

For those of you outside the bubble of Oklahoma City, MAPS 3 is a seven-year, nine-month one-cent sales tax that OKC voters passed on Tuesday. If you are interested in the projects  the tax funds you can go here: http://www.okc.gov. The first MAPS, passed in 1993, revived Bricktown and the second, MAPS for Kids, passed in 2001, funded improvements to area schools and was extended last year to renovate the Ford Center to attract a NBA franchise. MAPS 3 aims to improve quality of life and spur economic development.

Above are a few photos taken at the watch party held at the Cox Convention Center. The bottom image is a rendering of the approximately 70-acre central park which is part of the package and includes the logo I designed for the initiative. Although, because of my position with the City, I chose not to actively campaign for or against, I'm excited for a lot of the projects that are included and enjoyed the heated debate the campaigns sparked.

I recently helped my mom digitize some old family photos borrowed from my great aunt. There were quite a few photos, but these are a few of my favorites. The two portraits are my great-great-great grandmother and grandfather.

More post to come this weekend. It has been busy with the MAPS 3 election, portrait sessions and spending time with great friends and family. No complaints here.
